Introduction:
Wearing a retainer is the final phase of your orthodontic treatment. Your braces have been removed but to make sure that your teeth stay in position your dentist will fit you with a retainer.
Symptoms:
Your teeth will need the extra support of a retainer to stay in place after the braces are suddenly gone.
Diagnosis:
Your dentist will custom make your retainer. It will be made of plastic and will fit comfortably to your teeth.
Treatment:
Your dentist will ask that you wear your retainer at all times at first then less and less over the next several years.
You should take good care of your retainer. Cleaning it every time you brush your teeth will help you remember. Soak it in water to keep it from cracking and see your orthodontist for scheduled appointments.
