A Dental Veneer May Be The Answer

Posted on 07.29.16 By Site Admin

Professional studies have shown that over 30% of the population has some issue with their smile. This could mean that most of those people are uncomfortable in their social and business interactions with acquaintances and coworkers. They may even be trying to find ways to avoid having their picture taken or engaging in group activities.

If you are among the many who are struggling with what you may perceive as a flaw in your appearance due to a dental imperfection there is good news. The field of cosmetic dentistry is introducing more and more new ways to improve the look of your smile every day.

Dental veneers can cover a multitude of sins. Deep staining for instance, may not be affected by typical whitening systems. A porcelain veneer is the perfect alternative. Veneers are also commonly used for chipped or gaped teeth. The veneer will be modified to conform to your natural tooth then fitted over the surface to transform its shape.

Before the veneer is bonded to your tooth your dentist will make sure that the color is a good match to the natural shade of your teeth and that the shape is appropriate.

Taking Care Of Your Partial Denture

Posted on 07.22.16 By Site Admin

A denture is the traditional replacement for teeth that have been lost due to a lack of proper oral health care or as a result of injury. Even though they are custom made to fit the particular patient a denture will never feel as natural as the original teeth. However, the technology continues to improve the look and feel of both full and partial dentures. Many people depend on dentures to enhance their appearance and make it easier to speak clearly and chew the foods that they want to eat.

A removable partial denture will consist of one, or a row of several substitute teeth that are attached to the natural teeth on either side. The fact that the denture can be removed at will is one of the aspects that makes is such a popular choice for tooth replacement. It also means that the wearer has to be intent about maintenance.

Care for your denture just like you do your natural teeth by brushing every day. A denture can accumulate plaque and is also susceptible to staining from the foods and drinks that we consume. There are toothbrushes designed especially for use on a denture but your soft bristled brush will do. Don’t use your everyday toothpaste to clean your denture. A mild hand soap or detergent is less abrasive.

Is There Room For Improvement?

Posted on 07.15.16 By Site Admin

You may not think of having a cavity filled as being a cosmetic dental procedure but the innovation of composite materials has made it so. It used to be that a filling was a totally practical measure to restore a tooth that had been infected by tooth decay. Now people are choosing to have their silver or gold fillings replaced by more natural looking porcelain for instance, purely to improve their appearance.

One of the latest trends in cosmetic dentistry is the smile makeover. Whatever it is that you don’t like about your smile can usually be fixed by one cosmetic procedure or another. The first step is to evaluate the image that you see smiling back at you through your mirror. Your cosmetic dentist will actually provide you with a form listing possible areas for improvement. It will include questions concerning gaping spaces or overcrowded teeth, chips, stains the size of your teeth and if they are as bright and white as you would like.

Once you have done your own evaluation your dentist will go over it with you and tell you exactly what can be done to make the improvements that you want. He will talk to you about how long it might take to complete the particular restorations you have in mind and discuss costs and payment plans so that you will be aware of the expenses before you proceed.

A Healthy Smile Leaves A Good Impression

Posted on 07.8.16 By Site Admin

It’s important to be happy with the way that you look. It’s not just a matter of ego but it gives you the self-confidence to be comfortable in both business and social circumstances. It has been said that a smile is the first thing others notice about us. If that’s true a healthy smile can have a lasting impression.

White teeth seem to epitomize a healthy smile. Maybe that’s why teeth whitening systems have become so sought after in recent years. Whitening is actually the most commonly asked for procedure among cosmetic dental patients.

What’s the most successful way to whiten your teeth? The longer a whitening solution is in close contact with your teeth the better. Over the counter whitening trays don’t fit well enough and the solution contains less hydrogen peroxide than those available from your dentist. The chemical content of a professionally administered whitener can be three times higher than one that you can buy in a drugstore. Furthermore, the trays that your dentist provides are custom fit to your mouth.

Professional tooth whitening is perfectly safe for most people but if you suffer from gum disease you should consult with your dentist before proceeding. It is not recommended for those under the age of sixteen and pregnant women should avoid whitening solutions. Look for the ADA Seal of Approval on over the counter products.

Southlands Dental in Aurora places an emphasis on the accommodation of their patients. Call 720-886-0606 for your appointment.

Practice What You Preach

Parents know that it’s important to monitor the amount of sugar in their child’s diet as a preventive step in the fight against tooth decay. Children need to eat healthy foods all the while their teeth and gums are developing. Because we are so concentrated on seeing to it that our children maintain a proper diet we often tend to ignore our own.

Fully developed teeth need as much care as underdeveloped ones. After all, once our permanent teeth come in that’s it, we don’t get another set so we’d better learn how to take care of the ones we do have. Diet has a lot to do with whether we will keep our natural teeth throughout our lifetime or if we will need to resort to some form of replacement e.g., dentures.

Even though they are more susceptible, cavities are not exclusive to children. Cavities are the result of a buildup of bacterial plaque that forms on our teeth if we don’t brush and floss as we should. The plaque thrives on the sugar and acids from certain foods that we eat and causes our tooth enamel to deteriorate over time.

Look for foods that are rich in calcium and vitamin D, milk and cheese are prime examples. Anything that increases the flow of saliva in the mouth, like biting into a crisp apple for one, will help to wash away harmful plaque.
