Tooth Extraction

Introduction:

There are a number of reasons why you may have to have a tooth extracted. It is the last resort for a tooth that is abscessed or has been damaged beyond repair. An orthodontist may have to extract a tooth before a treatment can begin. A lot of people have their wisdom teeth removed to make room for the others. Talk to your dentist about the details of the procedure before it is scheduled.

Whatever the case may be you can expect a minimal level of discomfort during the procedure, but you can always ask to be given a sedation medication.

Symptoms:

An infection that is caused by excessive tooth decay and your dentist has advised you that the tooth cannot be saved.

Diagnosis:

Your dentist will examine the tooth and use xrays to make his determination.

Treatment:

Your dental hygienist will numb the area around the tooth in preparation. After the extraction your dentist or hygienist may take a few stitches to benefit the healing
process.

Your dentist will provide you with a list of do’s and don’ts to follow while your mouth is healing. He will also prescribe a pain medication in case you need it.
